I was lucky enough to begin my life as an educator in Ebina, Japan, where I taught English for a year. After coming back home to be with my wonderful Mrs. Hegeman (who was my girlfriend at the time), I apprenticed on a distant relative's dairy farm in Minnasota for a couple months. Boy was that hard work! Then I adjoined my interests in agriculture, travelling, and "Mrs. H" by moving to New Zealand for half a year. We farm hopped through a program called Willing Workers on Organic Farms, trading four hours labor for room and board. In between farm stays we were able explore too. Hiking the Abel Tazman trail for five days was amazing enough to name a kid after it! Then I lured my girlfriend back to Kansas and married her after finishing graduate school. Four years at Langston Hughes, two old home rehabs, and two beautiful children later...here I am.
